France to Construct New Aircraft Carrier to Replace Charles de Gaulle

(MENAFN) France has committed to constructing a next-generation aircraft carrier, President Emmanuel Macron revealed during a Sunday address to military personnel.

Speaking at a military installation in Abu Dhabi, the French leader emphasized maritime strength as a deterrent strategy. "We must be strong in order to be feared, and in particular strong at sea. That is why, in accordance with the last two military programming laws and after a full and thorough review, I have decided to equip France with a new aircraft carrier," Macron declared.

The announcement confirms that authorization for the massive defense initiative came within the past week, Macron indicated.

According to media, the forthcoming vessel will succeed the existing Charles de Gaulle carrier, with operational deployment targeted for the late 2030s.

Macron characterized the project as emblematic of French capabilities across multiple domains. "This new aircraft carrier will be an illustration of the power of our nation, the power of industry and technology, power placed at the service of freedom on the seas and amid the upheavals of our time," Macron further said.

The declaration came as Macron arrived in the United Arab Emirates on Sunday for holiday observances with deployed French forces and diplomatic consultations with Emirati officials regarding bilateral cooperation.
